Blank screen is a feature that when a computer is remotely controlled by other devices, its screen monitor turns black. This feature prevents others from seeing the screen while you are working remotely in this computer, so that your privacy is well protected.
The DPMS method of blank screen only works when the WDDM driver of the Streamer PC is not higher than 2.2.
To check the version of the WDDM driver, open DirectX Diagnostic Tool by entering "dxdiag" in Windows Run dialog or Search box. Under each Display tab, you can find the Driver Model with WDDM version.
This article consists of 2 sections:
- Enable Blank Screen
- Install DPMS Driver
Enable Blank Screen
Blank screen function is available as an option in Streamer settings. You can enable or disable blank screen from the Security settings of a Streamer.
Double click the Streamer icon to launch Streamer control panel, in the Security tab, scroll down to find Enable blank screen option. If the option is checked, blank screen takes effect immediately with any on-going session as well as future sessions.
Alternatively, you can apply or cancel blank screen dynamically from a Splashtop Client menu bar after a remote session is established.
Install DPMS Driver (only for WDDM<=2.2)
Generally speaking, blank screen should mostly work with the latest Streamer on most monitors. But there might be cases where blank screen does not work on certain Windows machines.
If blank screen fails to work, you are advised to install DPMS driver to enable function following the steps below:
- Download the attached zip file, and unzip it into the following folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Splashtop\Splashtop Remote\Server\Driver\Monitor
- Right click on the install bat file, then run as administrator.
On 32bits computer, please use install_driver.bat,
On 64bits computer, please use install_driver64.bat.
If the blank screen still does not work after installing the DPMS driver, please report to us from the support portal.
