OS Patch (Computer View)

Introduction

The OS Patch (Computer View) page allows you to manage operating system updates for Windows devices directly from the computer view. For a broader overview of patch status across your team, see Patch View.

We currently support Critical, Important, Optional, and Feature updates as well as full system upgrades.

Notes
Windows v3.8.0.7 and up Windows 7 and newer Windows 10+ cannot use the Windows API to set update policies.
Only Professional or higher editions can modify Group Policy for update control.

 

Instructions

Default schedule
  • Log in to Gateway web portal and navigate to Settings > Team Settings > Endpoint management.
  • Configure the default scan schedule by selecting a Daily, Weekly, or Monthly frequency, along with your preferred day and time. The Streamer will then perform scans accordingly.
  • Configure the default install schedule by selecting a Daily, Weekly, or Monthly frequency, along with your preferred day and time. The Streamer will automatically install approved patches accordingly.
Scan and apply OS patches
  • Log in to Gateway web console and navigate to Management > OS Patch > Computers.
  • Select the computers you would like to check, or select all, then click Bulk Actions > Patch scan.
  • Click OK to continue.
  • After scanning, select the computers and click Bulk Actions > Apply patches to apply patches.
  • On the page that appears, select the patches you would like to apply, and click Next to continue.
  • You will see the options below:
  • Install Patches:
    • Choose to install the patches immediately after the patches have downloaded, or during a specific date range.
  • Reboot Computer: 
    • Choose to reboot the computer immediately after the patch is installed, or at a certain time after the patch is installed.
  • Notify User:
    • Warn logged-on user before restart computer: You have the option to send a notification to that computer 3-120 minutes before the patch reboots the computer if a user is logged in.

Enhanced Update Control

For Windows streamer version 3.8.0.7 and higher, ticking Enhanced Update Control will ensure correct control of Windows updates on Windows 10 and 11 by utilizing GPO (Group Policy).
 

Supported Editions for Windows update on Windows 10 and 11 by utilizing GPO (Group Policy):

  • Windows Pro Edition
  • Windows Enterprise and Education Editions
  • Windows Server Editions

Patch Setting

There are 3 patch settings you can pick from: 

  1. Let OS install patches automatically
  2. Download patches but let me choose whether to install them
  3. Scan patches but let me choose whether to download and install them

If you select "Let OS install patches automatically", you can choose one day/every day and what hour to reboot the computer to install pending patches.

For Windows devices, there is also an option to include patches for other Microsoft Products supported by Windows Updates. 

Filtering and searching

Filters: Sort patches by:

  • Group: All Groups, Default Group.

  • Patch Status: Up to Date, Important Patches Pending, Optional Patches Pending, Patching in Progress, Reboot Required, Never Scan for Patches, and Scanning.

Search:
You can search for computers by computer name, group name, patch setting, and OS information.

Computer property
  • Log in to Gateway web console and navigate to Management > All Computers > Gear button > Properties > Patches. From here, you can manage the patches by viewing details, scanning, and applying patches.

OS patch logs

Log in to Gateway web console and navigate to Logs > OS Patch. You can view the patch install requests and click the Details icon to view the specific results.

  • This feature is available from Gateway v3.40.1 and later. 
  • This feature must be enabled in license settings to proceed. Please contact our support team if needed.
  • This feature can be turned on or off from the Team Settings page.
