Starting with Gateway v3.40.0, Splashtop tracks remote print activity so team admins can see when someone prints to the Splashtop Remote Printer, which device sent the print job, and whether it was delivered successfully.
What You Need
- Gateway version 3.40.0 or later
- Streamer version 3.8.0.7 or later (Windows, macOS, or Linux)
How to View Print Logs
Step 1: Find the Remote Print Column
After upgrading your Gateway, you’ll notice a new Remote Print column in your session logs:
- Go to Logs → Remote Desktop Sessions in the web console.
- Look for the Remote Print column — it shows a small printer icon whenever a print job was logged during that session.
- If no printing happened during a session, the cell stays empty.
Tip: Hover over the printer icon to see the tooltip “View print job(s).”
Step 2: View Print Details
Click the printer icon to open the Remote Print details dialog. You’ll see a list of all print events for that session, including:
- Time — when the print job was reported
- Computer — which remote machine was involved
- Computer Owner — deployed computer
- Accessed By — who initiated the remote session
- Accessed From — which On-Prem app device was used
- Job Title — the name of the document
- Status — either Processed or Failed
What Does “Processed” Actually Mean?
A Processed status means the print data was successfully sent from the remote computer to your local device. It doesn’t necessarily mean the document was physically printed — you might have saved it as a PDF or canceled it on your end. The log tracks intent, not the final outcome.
A Failed status means something went wrong on the remote side before the data could be delivered (for example, a printer driver issue or spooler error).
Things to Keep in Mind
- Using RDP? Remote print logging isn’t available for RDP sessions — only for standard Splashtop remote desktop sessions.
- Older sessions? Sessions from before your Gateway upgrade will show an empty Remote Print column. That’s normal — the feature only tracks sessions going forward.
If Something Doesn’t Look Right
- No printer icon showing up? Make sure your Streamer is updated to version 3.8.0.7 or later.
- Column is missing entirely? Your Gateway may not be on v3.40.0 yet. Check with your admin.
- Print job shows “Failed”? This usually means a driver or spooler issue on the remote machine. Try reprinting or check the remote printer setup.
