Transfer Files via Splashtop Connector

You can now transfer files to and from remote machines that you access via SSH through the Splashtop Connector. Upload documents, download logs, create folders, rename files — all without leaving Splashtop.

What You Need

  • Splashtop On-Prem client app, version 3.8.0.7 or later
  • Splashtop Connector version 1.2.8.0 or later

Note: This feature works with SSH connections only. RDP and VNC connections are not supported for file transfer at this time.

How to Transfer Files

Option 1: From the Computer List

This is the quickest way to start a file transfer without opening a terminal session first.

  • Find the SSH machine in your computer list.
  • Click the file transfer icon next to it.
  • Enter the SSH login credentials when prompted.
  • The file transfer window opens, and you can start uploading or downloading files right away.

Tip: You can click the file transfer icon again to open a second file transfer session to the same machine.

Option 2: From an Active SSH Session

If you’re already connected to a remote machine via SSH terminal, you don’t need to re-enter your credentials:

  • Click the file transfer icon in the toolbar at the top of the SSH session window.
  • The file transfer window opens automatically using your current connection — no extra login needed.

What You Can Do in the File Transfer Window

The file transfer window gives you a familiar file-browser experience on the remote machine:

  • Browse folders using Home, Back, Forward, and Up buttons
  • Upload files from your local computer to the remote machine
  • Download files from the remote machine to your local computer
  • Create new folders on the remote machine
  • Rename or delete files and folders (right-click for more options)
  • Show or hide hidden folders
  • Disconnect and reconnect as needed from the top bar

If Something Goes Wrong

Here’s what to expect if you run into issues:

  • No file transfer icon visible? Your team admin may need to enable File Transfer in your team settings, or the Connector may need to be updated.
  • Permission denied on a file or folder? You may not have the right access on the remote machine. Contact the machine’s administrator.
  • Bulk transfer errors? If you’re uploading or downloading many files and one fails due to permissions, you’ll see an option to skip the error and continue with the remaining files.
  • Connection lost? Use the Reconnect button in the top bar to re-establish the session.

Where to Find Transfer Logs

Your team admin can view file transfer activity in the Logs section:

  • On Splashtop Business (Cloud): Go to the management console → Logs → SFTP Sessions or File Transfer.
  • On Splashtop On-Prem: Go to the web console → Logs → File Transfer.

Good to Know

  • iOS and Android clients do not support SSH file transfer at this time.
  • The file transfer runs separately from your terminal session, so closing the terminal does not interrupt an ongoing transfer.
  • Multiple users can transfer files to the same machine at the same time.
