System Tool

Introduction

System Tools are a set of new Splashtop Features that give access to these Windows (Windows 7 and above) and Mac OS (10.11 and above*) Diagnostic Tools directly from the web console.

These currently include:

  • Task Manager (Windows and Mac OS Only)
  • Registry Editor (Windows Only)
  • Device Manager (Windows Only)
  • Service Manager (Windows Only)

* For macOS versions lower than 10.15, compatibility varies depending on the used web browser.

How to access

From the Gateway

You can access system tools either via the tab Computers. Select the computer and click on the gear icon on the right side. Then select the background action. A new browser tab will open that displays the selected background action.

From the On-Prem App

Select the computer in your computer list and click on the system tools icon. Then select the background action. A new browser tab will open that displays the selected system tool session.

Note: For security reasons, you must use a trusted SSL certificate to establish a system tools session from SRC

Team Settings

You can configure the background actions settings from within the web console, under Settings > Team settings > Unattended access. By default, background settings is enabled for Admins and Owner. You can restrict access to the owner account or extend access to team members as well.

Behavior on Streamer side

A background action will be treated as a type of remote session. When initiating a background action, the Streamer on the targeted endpoint will display the following session status:

Besides, the session indicator and/or the connection pop-up will be displayed. Background sessions have their own icon as can be seen in the following screenshot:

As for remote sessions, you can configure in the web console if you want to display the session indicator, the session pop-up, or both. To do so, please go to Settings > Team settings > Unattended access > Session Indicator.

Session Logs

You can access the System Tool Session log in the web console: Logs > SESSIONS > System Tool.

System Tools - Remote Task Manager

Remote Task Manager allows you to access the Windows Task Manager or Mac OS Activity Monitor directly from within Splashtop without needing to connect directly or interrupt the user at the remote machine.

When selecting the background action Remote Task Manager, a new browser tab will open and display the following page:

System Tools - Remote Registry Editor

Remote Registry Editor allows you to access the Windows Registry Editor directly from within Splashtop without needing to connect directly or interrupt the user at the remote machine.

When selecting the system tool Remote Registry Editor, a new browser tab will open and display the following page:

a) Add new keys:

System Tools - Remote Device Manager

Remote Device Manager allows you to access the Windows Device Manager directly from within Splashtop without needing to connect directly or interrupt the user at the remote machine.

When selecting the system tool Remote Device Manager, a new browser tab will open and display the following page:

You can then select any hardware e.g. a network adapter:

In the top-left corner, there is a button that you can use to enable or disable devices. It will look like this once you click it:

It will display a confirmation window as soon as you click "Enable" or "Disable":

There are three different symbols that will appear next to devices to indicate their status:

System Tools - Remote Service Manager

Remote Service Manager allows you to access the Windows Service Manager directly from within Splashtop without needing to connect directly or interrupt the user at the remote machine.

When selecting the background action Remote Service Manager, a new browser tab will open and display the following page:

You can change the startup type of each service. Clicking on the current status e.g. "Manual" will display several options:

After changing the startup type, it will be applied by the remote computer in real-time.

On the right side you find several icons with which you can change the current status of each service:

Please note that the "Pause" function is often not available for services, so it will be greyed-out.
These actions are performed on a system-level and ignore the permissions of the currently signed-in Windows user.
