Remote Command

Remote Command just got a major upgrade. With the new command, running commands on a remote computer feels just like sitting in front of it — you get a full terminal with tab auto-completion, command history, mouse support, and much more.

What’s New

  • Tab auto-completion — press Tab to auto-complete commands and file paths, just like a local terminal
  • Command history — use the up/down arrow keys to cycle through previous commands
  • Full keyboard support — Ctrl, Alt, Function keys, Esc, and arrow keys all work as expected
  • Mouse support — select text, right-click, scroll, and copy directly in the terminal
  • PowerShell on Windows — you can now choose to open PowerShell instead of just Command Prompt
  • Session transcripts — download a full transcript of your session after it ends

What You Need

  • Splashtop client app version 3.8.0.7 or later
  • Streamer  version 3.8.0.7 or later
  • Gateway version 3.40.0 or later
  • Remote Command must be enabled in your team settings

Which Operating Systems Are Supported?

Remote Command v2 works on newer operating systems. If your OS is older, don’t worry — it will automatically use the classic Remote Command instead. No action needed on your part.

Windows Windows 10, 11, or Server 2019+ Windows 7, 8, or older
macOS macOS 12.7 or later macOS 12.6 or earlier
Android Android 7 and above Older versions

If you manage computers through the web console:

  • Go to My Computers, click the gear icon on a computer row, then choose Background actions.
  • Under App Session, pick Command Prompt, PowerShell, or Terminal depending on the platform.

Tip: The PowerShell option only shows up when the remote computer supports Remote Command v2. Otherwise you’ll just see Command Prompt.

Option 3: Desktop Shortcuts

You can create desktop shortcuts to launch Remote Command with one click:

  • Windows shortcuts are named like: MyComputer (Remote Command).url or MyComputer (PowerShell).url
  • macOS and Android shortcuts are named like: MyComputer (Remote Command).url

Downloading Session Transcripts

After your Remote Command session ends, you can download a transcript of everything that happened:

  • Go to Logs → Remote Command Sessions in the web console.
  • Click the Details icon for the session you want to review.
  • Click Download full transcript at the top of the dialog.

Note: The download link is greyed out while the session is still active. It becomes available once the session ends and the transcript finishes uploading.

If Something Goes Wrong

  • See “Permission denied”? Your team admin may need to enable Remote Command in your team settings or grant you access.
  • Only see Command Prompt but not PowerShell? The remote computer may not support new remote command yet. Check that the Streamer is updated.
  • Session transcript not available? Make sure the session has fully ended. If the transcript still doesn’t appear, there may have been an upload issue — contact your admin.
